Today is the Show Us Your Dress Form Party hosted by Tiffany at Shabby Scraps . The offerings are absolutely tremendous.
Creatively and "artistically", this has been a hard week. I've been trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear via the magic of trash bags and duct tape. It's been fun, but in a way disappointing...I'm just going to modify and adapt, keep trying things until I get it right. I've taken inspiration from a number of sources--Ballard Designs, Pottery Barn, Susie Holt's Cat's Meow, and a number of Google images. Here's my interpretation:I'm thinking of Eliza (Doolittle) as a name for her...perhaps when she's completed with a fabric wrap or some decoupage'd wine labels...she's still a little (a lot) lumpy, as the spackle didn't work on top of the duct tape. More thinking, more planning, more doing.

Amazing amount of work, but you're doing a great job. She is really coming together beautifully.

Thank you for showing Eliza, even when she's a work in progress. I hope she turns out the way you envision her!

Wow, Teresa, you really know how to (and I'm channeling Tim Gunn here) "Make it work!" Such fun to follow your progress on Eliza. Your blog banner is just gorgeous, too.
Love Eliza!!! You are doing a wonderful job on her. Have a wonderful day.

Teresa, I've been following the creation of your dress form with great amusement! I'm impressed with your creativity. Truly! Eliza will be a princess someday. Thanks for sharing the process. I look forward to seeing her in her full glory! ~Kathy
You're on the right track with Miss Eliza. She just needs some fabric now. I like the wine label idea... can't wait to see how she turns out!
WOW, what a job you did!

Wow!! I thought covering alone was quite a job, let alone modelling! Love the button necklace!
Oh, Eliza is going to be just divine when she is all done!
Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That's amazing!
Hey Teresa it is pretty good looking to me. If it were me doing it, it would look like lumpy oatmeal. I like it. she is really pretty. So don't be to hard on your self. Have a great weekend.
hugs

I think she's coming along splendidly!
"no models were hurt...", lol!
I've always wanted to make one of these too, you've inspired me to do it soon!

If it mean anything, this is the only
dress form post I have been inspired to post on and I've read them all, today.
I don't think it looks too bad, but would look a lot better if you covered her with cloth. You did a great job of embellishing her and I really like the iron planter you used as a base.
If you do decide to get a dress form, try ebay. I've been looking at the new ones and they're reasonably priced. Then you can antique it to give it that vintage quality.

I was thinking about making a dress form to match my figure to assist me in making my clothing.
You can find directions for making one out of "paper" tape that might be better if you want to spackle it.

Here's a place I found that sells reasonably priced dress forms and bases.

You've done great already! Eliza should be proud of her creators, it's not easy to make a woman out of nothing! (God did it!) I've enjoyed your tales, and am learning from your process! My gal, Spreckels, is also still a work in progress! (I just realized I posted a link to your blog, but had an incorrect link...I'll go correct!)
