I made the curtains to cover bookcases last summer. When I actually have dinner guests, the curtains close and it doesn't look quite so much like a crafting area.

Perfect area to do what you love to do. And spreading out to the dinning area is a good use of that space too. I'm pretty sure we spend more creating than we spend eating. Sound like you have made it work for you.
